This urban fantasy set in San Francisco is populated with dragons, witches, imps and other magical creatures. This is the second book for the two main characters. Saba is a human witch and Malcolm is a black dragon. They had a relationship that began when he enslaved her to his will but she was never a very good slave. He returned to dragonspace and left her heartbroken but determined to become a stronger witch.

Luckily, she is stronger than when Malcolm first met her because she is attacked on the subway by a white dragon who is determined to enslave her. She could fight off the magical bonds but needed to use the dragon crystals Malcolm left with her to ward off the physical attack. The crystals summoned Malcolm from dragonspace.

Together the two need to find and defeat the white dragon before he manages to gain control over all the dragons. The book includes a magical archive, guarded by Malcolm, that holds over six trillion books. The white dragon has stolen one of the books which includes the true names of all the dragons. The one with the true name is able to control the dragon. The archive is also organized with a sort of magical database which was compromised when the book was stolen. Luckily, Saba's day job is as a programmer.

This book was fun. I liked the romance which was hampered by the fact that the principals were from very different cultures. I am also a big fan of dragons and think Malcolm was an excellent example of the type.

I recommend this book for urban fantasy fans.

When the Black Dragon was last seen, he step through a door into his dragon realm and home...ah sweet home, he was happy to fly as he hadn't in centuries, check out his library and just be, but as you might have guessed from the first book Allyson James gave us Dragon Heat, Malcolm as he liked to be called in our world, would be back, after all who could leave so beautiful woman such as Saba Watanabe, a witch who needs the Black Dragon and left with Dragon tears to call upon him when in need. Which Saba does with a White Dragon attacks her. A cold dragon, who thinks of nothing but power, and evil. So we once again have the Black Dragon in mortal world, once again we get to spend time with the Caleb our Gold Dragon and his beautiful Silver Dragon wife Lisa, who is about to make Caleb a very proud daddy. With the gang all here we have a romance, thriller, comedy a read to once again relax and enjoy. Cozy up with some hot coco, coffee, tea or wine and just enjoy. Let your brain rest from the stress of the day and don't worry about the house, kids, hubby, in-laws or job take a brake from the real world and travel to the dragon lands of the Black Dragon, to the real world of Saba and find out what there life is like in China town....have some fun

The Black Dragon

"The Black Dragon" begins with an exciting first chapter, then slows way down until about midway through the book where the pace picks up again. I really liked this story as a whole, but there were some parts in the first half of the book that had me literally falling asleep. As much as I loved the characters and the plot, it just didn't move in the beginning. I think it was the fact that so many things were retold from the first book, "Dragon Heat", for the sake of people who didn't read it. The fact that the romance is intense from start to finish kept me reading.

I was really glad to see many of the characters from "Dragon Heat" return for "The Black Dragon". Allyson James did a terrific job keeping all of them consistent in their personalities. "Dragon Heat's" main couple, Lisa and Caleb, play big roles in "The Black Dragon". Caleb is still funny and arrogant, Lisa is still calm and light- hearted. The main couple in "TBD", Saba and Malcolm, had big roles in "DH". Saba returns in this sequel with her down- to- earth outlook on life and her fierce loyalty to her friends. Malcolm remains dark, serious, extremely intelligent, and very protective.

Set in San Fransisco, the dragon series is about dragons who live in human form whenever they are among real humans. Long ago, dragons and people shared their worlds. Now that the humans have stopped believing in dragons, the dragons cannot change into their true form when nonbelievers are present. Malcolm, a Black Dragon, was exiled in the human world for 800 years. A year ago, Lisa who is a powerful Silver Dragon, helped Malcolm return to Dragonspace. After nearly a century of being trapped in the human world, Malcolm's soul soars as he reenters his home land.

Saba, a powerful human witch, is heart- broken because her true love Malcolm has returned to Dragonspace. Although she has been determined to move on and forget him, she continues to carry the dragon tears Malcolm gave her. Before leaving, he told Saba that if she ever needed him she could use the dragon tears to call him back to earth.

Alone in a train car, Saba is surprised by the appearance of a White Dragon. White Dragons are often called "Frosts" because of their cold cruel nature. When the White Dragon attacks Saba, she uses the tears to call Malcolm for help. After beating the White Dragon for harming Saba, Malcolm becomes determined to find out why the White Dragon wanted to overpower her. He also plans to reveal to Saba that he has realized she is meant to be his true mate for life.

The White Dragon, known in human form as Roland, is greedy for powerful magic. Using "The Book of All Dragons", he has the key to enslaving Malcolm. Roland is determined to capture Saba and use her powers for his own benefit. Malcolm and Saba must work together, with the help of Lisa and Caleb, to stop Roland from murdering humans in his quest for power. Throughout the battle, Malcolm's greatest concern is keeping "his Saba" safe.

The second book in the series follows Saba and Malcolm, these two characters were introduced in the first book but were never looked at too closely. From the anticipation readers had for this story it fell short, but as a stand alone the book is a great read.

Saba is now free, her dragon master Malcolm has gone back to Dragonspace, and when he left he said he would never return. But he gave a dragon tear to her in case she was ever in enough danger that she needed help, and when she is attacked by a white dragon she calls for Malcolm.

When Malcolm gets sucked onto Earth he saves Saba then leaves to go back to Dragonspace, but curious what has happened he returns to Saba to find out. The two realize that a white dragon is creating trouble and work together to stop it. Along the way the two fall in love and and try to create a life where they both fit

Though The Black Dragon didnt hold up to the anticipation it had from the series as a stand alone novel its interesting and well written
