My name is Michael Lacourse, and I drive for Uber in Cleveland, Ohio. I have met many interesting people as a driver, and I love what I do. Throughout my journey with Uber, I have had the pleasure of driving for NBA Championship parade, the RNC Cleveland Republican Convention, the Cleveland Indians/Chicago Cubs World Series crowds, and numerous other interesting people such as actors, singers, inventors, and entrepreneurs. You just never know who will be your next fare.

A few words about my personal experiences

I had never been paid to drive others. Driving for Uber made me change my driving style. I have made mistakes along the way which caused my Uber rankings to go down, despite my ability to drive well. I have also made some false steps in the course of events, like asking a rider what the name of the destination was and getting a professional golfer and a caddie mixed up in my car.

I also encountered bad feedback for navigation and have had the Uber app lead me to a dead end while my waiting fare was in a hurry. I’ve coped with a city that had over a millionsports fans all over the streets making passage almost impossible, police closing streets. AndI’ve been in a city when a national convention caused police to close streets, daily changing one-way directions and fences in the middle of the road to deter terrorist attacks. I have had a spammer who fraudulently passed himself as a priest that cried in the car. Every day is something new for an Uber driver.

I have driven thousands of people, and have made my share of mistakes. It has made me a safer driver. I now look twice to make a right turn and look at my rear view mirror twice, side view mirror, front window and back window to make a left turn. I have written this book to sharemy experiences and insights for new and upcoming Uber drivers, to give them insight into what it takes to drive Uber on a day-to- day basis. It can also be a guide of what NOT to do, to help you avoid making the same mistakes. It will give you tips and ideas for safety and will be a
guide to help improve ratings and income.
